♦ ACTIVITIES

Todays primary activities of Department include production of fruit plants, rootstocks and scions for grafting. There is production of standard quality fruit plants, but in the future Department plans production of basic and certifed material with genetic and phytosanitary control. Production of virus free and virus tested material are primary objectives of Department activities. Production of propagation material and fruit plants have to be established on modern techologies. High quality of propagation material has to be an identity card of Department in this part of Europe.

Other activities of Department include co-operation with other scientific institutions and researching programs. Department is involved in different agrotechical, agroecological, pomotechical and plant protection experiments, introduction of new varieties as well as establishing fruit breeding program. Results of experiments have to ensure higher and stable yield of fruit, better quality and cheaper production. In the light of these activities, Department of Fruit Production is more then just a commercial nursery. Department is scientific center which ensures new techologies in modern fruit production.

In the future, Department will emphasise fruit breeding program, introduction of new varieties and rootstocks as well as production of genetic and phytosanitary controled propagation material. It will be the base of modern fruit production in this part of Europe.
